Apple’s recent announcement of its third Impact Accelerator class has put Tampa Bay on the map for environmental innovation. Among the twelve businesses chosen from around the country, esmart recycle, led by Tony Selvaggio, was the lone representative from the entire state of Florida. This remarkable achievement not only brings recognition to Tampa Bay but also highlights the city’s commitment to sustainable technology and education.
Tony Selvaggio’s Perspective:
When asked about his acceptance into the Apple Impact Accelerator class, Tony Selvaggio expressed his gratitude and excitement. Reflecting on his journey, he recalled listening to Steve Jobs’ inspirational Stanford Commencement Speech in 2006. Jobs’ wise words about connecting the dots looking back resonated deeply with Selvaggio, who could have never imagined collaborating with Apple to create sustainable access to technology and education.
Tony Selvaggio stated, “The Apple Impact Accelerator is one of its kind, and to be accepted into this select group of companies from around the country is an incredible honor. I’m still on cloud nine. To top it off, seeing ‘Tampa, FL’ next to our company name and being able to represent the city I love so much gives me so much joy.”
Apple’s Impact Accelerator Program:
The newly announced Impact Accelerator class consists of 12 Black-, Hispanic/Latinx-, and Indigenous-owned environmental solution and service providers. The program aims to help diverse businesses scale their impact and achieve the next level of development. As part of Apple’s broader Racial Equity and Justice Initiative, the Impact Accelerator program contributes to expanding equity and opportunities for Black and Brown communities.
Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “With the third cohort of our Impact Accelerator, we’re honored to support businesses whose innovations are paving the way to a greener, more equitable future. These diverse leaders are serving their communities, expanding opportunities, and pioneering new solutions in the fight against climate change.”
Participating businesses will engage in a rigorous 12-week program comprising targeted trainings, executive coaching, skills development opportunities, one-to-one mentorship, and access to Apple’s subject-matter experts. Upon completion, these businesses will continue to receive professional support, including access to Apple experts and invitations to networking events through Apple’s Supplier Success community. Furthermore, companies may also be considered for business opportunities with Apple as the company strives to achieve carbon neutrality across its manufacturing supply chain by 2030.
